Memorable Moments

Abigail Hall was all smiles and high-sprits having just received a cheque for £2,000 from Insight Out, for her innovative business enterprise. The 27 year-old was eager to inform Tales of Creativity of the developments she's made with her business since completing the programme earlier in the year.

"I feel as though I've been on an amazing life-transforming rollercoaster over the last four months! Insight Out has opened my eyes to the business world," enthused Abigail. "It has given me confidence and made me recognise that this is a fantastic design and its applications are a lot larger than I originally thought."

Abigail Hall lives her life by the ethos 'make it memorable', and believes that every moment of life can be made special with a little thought and attention.

Learning from Insight Out

Currently residing within central Birmingham, Abigail has been busy working with West Midlands based manufacturers, enthusiastically developing her high quality table wear collection, which can be strikingly customised to reflect the individuality of the consumers tastes and needs.

Abigail cites her influences from many areas, "I'm a designer in the creative industry but still love a crisp white shirt and tailored suit, I think this is reflected in my design style: simple, classic and elegant."

With her flair and positive energy, Abigail revealed to Tales of Creativity how she's modestly managed to charm her way into some of the most prestigious venues around the country, successfully promoting her innovative and well planned product designs. "Insight Out has taken me from an amateur business to a professional, forward- looking commercial business," says Abigail. "The programme has successfully provided me with valuable insight and experience in developing my business plan, which has led to me approaching investors, suppliers and buyers."

As one of fifteen applicants on the 2007 Insight Out programme delivered by Birmingham City University, Abigail developed the practical skills and ideas necessary to take her business forward.

"The great thing is, you're in contact with influential people over the four month programme who have invaluable and positive insight," says Abigail passionately, "They direct you in ways that help develop your product, idea and business to be something more than you ever could imagine if you did it on your own."

Future

But what does the future hold for Abigail Hall? How would she like her creative business developed? "First things first, I'm going to invest the money I was awarded towards producing ceramic prototypes to properly market and test my product, and see if it can be utilised in the way I hoped it could be," says Abigail.

Ultimately though, Abigail's aspirations are grounded in ensuring sustainability for her creative business. "I'd like Abigail Hall Ceramics to become self-sufficient, because at the moment I still have to work to fund the core business. So the long-term goal is to become not only self-sufficient but a good money-maker!"
