Aspiring To Success
Daniella Genas is a confident and open individual who was pleased to talk to Tales of Creativity (TOC) about the MA Media Enterprise course she is studying on and how this has benefited the business she is in today. She explains how her initial ideas whilst she attended the Insight Out 2006 programme weren't considered to be "money makers". So she focused on developing her business, Aspire 4 U. She explains that Aspire 4 U is a project which allows people, mainly of the younger generation, to showcase their creative talents ranging from dancing to MC-ing.
When TOC asked her whether she felt she benefited from studying on the course and what skills she had developed in doing so she replied: "I only wish I had studied the course a year earlier because it would have benefited the business sooner as I am working on both this year." However, she then goes on to explain what skills she has taken from the course in terms of her confidence. She says "I feel I am a confident person already but I feel that I can organise things better and I now know how to be self evaluative."
Overcoming Obstacles
Daniella believes her expectations prior to the course have been met and explains: "My expectations of the course have gone above and beyond. It helped me side by side with my business." Despite Daniella's current success, she has had her fair share of obstacles in the market. When asking her what problems she has overcome in her past experience, she replies: "Theft was one major problem. The company lost two girls, one for personal reasons and the other left on very bad terms." She further explains that after organising a major event a large sum of money made from this had mysteriously disappeared.
Daniella explains the course helped her to overcome this hurdle. "The course opened my eyes. After this problem I learned not to be too trusting of people and to become more vigilant in the business."
Celebrity status
Daniella has been recognized for her work and laughs over how getting involved in this line of work has made her slightly famous. "I haven't been rewarded for my work, but I have been noticed by students at Birmingham City University saying how they have seen my picture on the University website and in a couple of magazines. It was quite funny, I even googled myself!"
What exactly are Daniella's core values that she runs the business by? Slightly apprehensive as to whether these are considered as core values, she went on to say: "To have integrity. Don't be ruthless with other companies, because you may need their help. Work hard and have determination."
Goal Setting
Daniella clearly has ambition in terms of her future goals, and who's to say she won't get them what with her current success? "In the future I would like to have my own school of excellence. I would also like to host an event similar to 'The Clothes Show' held at the NEC over a three day weekend and would also like to create street teams."
In five years time Daniella hopes to be living abroad and running her own company over the internet.
Aspire 4 U hosted the Talent 2008 show at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on Friday 6th June 2008, which was dubbed as the largest intercity student showcase in the UK.
